Post Irish invading Canada
Mad Bomber just informed me that Jarious Jackson had a great game up in the CFL. Nice to see a good Catholic Irish boy doing well :D

Jarious Jackson had an even better game last week throwing for over 400 yards, but only one touchdown in leading the BC Lions to victory. That makes him 13-3 as a starter in the last season, and a quarter for the Lions. I think he found his niche.

Some players are better suited for the Canadian game, and some NFL's come up here and fail miserably and vice versa.

Well first let me apologize, as Jarious Jackson only threw for a paltry 396 yards last week, and then this week led the Lions
back from a 24-6 third quarter deficit to score a 36-34 victory over the Montreal Alouettes while throwing for another 319
yards, but only one touchdown.

In Hamilton, former Fighting Irish alumni Nick Setta had two field goals, and seven total points, but that was not enough as the Hamilton Tiger Cats lost to the Edmonton Eskimos by a score of 19-13.

I was surprised that Setta didn't make it in the pros ... he was a very solid kicker for the Irish. After 3 years of ignoring special teams at ND, Weiss finally go his head out of his ass and recruited a kicker for 2009. Second highest rated in the country.

Mike, as I told you previously Nick was the runner-up for rookie of the year to former Penn State lineman Cameron Wake, and I think the only reason Wake does not play in the NFL is that he is undersized, as the CFL is all about speed and quickness, and not all about size.

Nick was going to go for a tryout with an NFL team, and Hamilton gave him a nice raise, as well as a contract extension. When you only win three games you have to hold on to your assets.

I will search for more players from Notre Dame, and if more have come north I will keep you informed. I used to go watch Joe Theismann when I was a kid when he played for the Argonauts, and led them to the Grey Cup in 1971 where they sadly lost in the final minute of play.

Thursday night was a rought night for the boys from South Bend. First up was the game between the Hamilton Tiger Cats and the Montreal Alouettes in Montreal. The Als had gotten off to a fast start this year winning their first two games, before dropping their next three, and the Cats continue to struggle.

In what can only be described as a shootout, Montreal prevailed by a score of 40-34, despite the continued brilliance of Fighting Irish alumnus Nicholas Setta who is third in the league in scoring, and leads the league in punting with what was a
49 yard average heading into this weeks game.

Out west the Edmonton Eskimos overcame a fourth quarter deficit to score a come from behind 35-24 victory over the Jarious Jackson led BC Lions. Jackson had a rough game throwing for only 216 yards and one touchdown, while being intercepted twice. Jackson also ran for 69 yards, and is fourth in the league with 1530 yards passing after six games, only
five of which have been started by Jackson.

Edmonton had lost their top receiver Jason Tucker last week with a potentially career ending injury when he fractured two vertebrae in his neck. Heres hoping he can recover.

Last week in the CFL the Hamilton Tiger Cats laid a beating on the Toronto Argonauts by a score
of 45-21 with former Fighting Irish kicker Nick Setta scoring twelve points, and punting for a 47.6 yard average.

Meanwhile on the West Coast Jarious Jackson despite being pulled in the third quarter led the BC Lions to a 40-34 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos.

This week in the CFL the Western Conference has a bye week, so there are only two games, and last night the Winnipeg Blue Bombers handed the Hamilton Tiger Cats their 6th loss of the season
with a 37-24 victory last night in Winnipeg. Nick Setta had one field goal, and three extra points while continuing to lead the league in punting fo the Cats.

Tonight, the Toronto Argonauts will host the Montreal Alouettes, and the reason for me mentioning
this is rookie defensive lineman Ross Weaver of the Air Force Academy has been called back to active duty, as a nuclear weapons specialist for the Air Force, and we all should be proud of those who fight for our countries.

Lee, I hope everything is going well for your son.

It was a bye week in the Eastern Conference this week, and the main action taking place on the west coast was the BC Lions taking on the Calgary Stampeders. To make it short the Stamps defeated the Lions by a score of 36-29, and in the process may have lost Jarious Jackson for a while as he dislocated his thumb in the third quarter, and may be out for a couple of weeks.
