Post subject:  Mixed news at the first fight card in March

March 1, 1913

The LBA set new attendance records with the announcement of topless ring card girls, unfortunately tragedy put a damper on the evening

Title Fight

FW - (IBF/WBA) Benny Yanger (CH) (28-4) unified two titles with a TKO8 over Solly Smith (CH/1) (29-18-4). Yanger defended his WBA FW title for the 3rd time and won the IBF FW title.

Smith had a good first round but appeared to limp back to his corner. Yanger took over at that point dropping Smith twice in the 4th. Smith grimaced after landing a shot to the top of Yanger's head in the 8th and turned his back on Yanger. Smith informed the ref that his hand was broken and he couldn't continue. I had it 68-64 for Yanger at the stoppage.

Title Tourney

FW - (WBO - second round) Terrible Terry McGovern (4/3) (40-9-4) battered Jerry Barnett (8/9) (22-9-1) until the ref stopped the fight in the 5th. Barnett was down in the 3rd and his eye was completely swollen shut. McGovern will advance to the title match of the WBO title tourney. I had it 40-35 at the stoppage.

Other Fights

BW - Freddie Walsh (11/7) (19-14-5) UD10 Charley Parton (51/54) (17-10-1)

HW - Sam McVey (24/20) (35-8) TKO3 Jimmy Ryan (76/93) (17-8)

MW - Joe Borrell (UR) (14-0) UD10 Teddy Neary (52/57) (15-6-1) 98-91 (Borrell at pre for this fight)

LW - Phil Brock (19/17) (17-0-2) SD10 Harry Scroggs (111/113) (9-8-3) 97-93 Brock (Brock at pre for this fight)

Fight Card notes

* The lovely Eve Wyrwal displayed her wares as the ring card girl in the title fight

* Jimmy Ryan collapsed after the fight and was rushed to the hospital, after numerous attempts to revive him he was pronounced dead

* Brock was down in the 9th and nearly out on his feet in the 10th, Brock also went prime after the fight and made it to prime undefeated

You need to post your LBA DB. Looking for every fighter on CW and on the board is tiresome. No offense but the basement is more disorganized with the current set up. You have to do more searching instead of going to one spot and finding things.

Only problem with that is that I have started deleting a lot of the fighters who have rolled over into my universe ... I will see what I can come up with though.

Maybe you could post your "full" DB and then your "Uni" DB. Just a suggestion.

Just in case some missed it ... first fatality in the LBA ... I'm thinking of a 50/50 roll on it effecting McVey's Killer instinct.

March 6, 1913

Title Fight

HW - (NABF) Harry Wills (UR) (13-0) (pre) scored a KO6 over Carl Morris (7/18) (19-1) to win the NABF HW title. It was Wills 6 straight win by KO and his 11th overall. Wills had Morris down in the 5th and out in the 6th. I had it 48-46 Wills at the stoppage.

Title Tourney

LH - (WBC - first round) Leo Houck (8/5) (31-13-4) scored a pretty easy UD12 over Charles McCoy (6/9) (35-12-4) to advance to the second round of the WBC LH tourney. He will face John Wille in May. This was a rematch of a draw in January. McCoy suffered some swelling around his left eye in the first round and never saw Houck's right the rest of the fight. The final scores were 118-113/119-114/118-113.

Other Fights

MW - Jack Fogarty (12/9) (23-5-1) UD10 Bill Turnball (40/49) (19-5-2)

WW - Jack Willis (57/47) (18-13-3) UD10 Kid Graves (38/42) (21-10-2)

Fight Card Notes

* Graves down 4 times in loss

* questionable rankings after the Willis/Graves fight

* The lovely Lucy Pinder was the ring card girl for the title fight

I posted in the retirement thread about this but I think its a good idea to have an effect on him in some way.

Damn, that didn't take long at all before someone was killed. Also, I agree with the idea of making a roll to see if the death effects McVey. It'd be a lot more realistic that way.

I was surprised it happened this quick also ... they have to

1) be KO'd of TKO's
2) roll 1-5 out of 100
3) roll 1-5 out of 100 again

Not his lucky day.

Sam McVey rolled a 20 so his KI will be reduced by 1

Post subject:  BW title match

March 7, 1913

Title Fights

BW - (WBC) George Dixon (CH) (38-11-2) scored a KO10 over Harry Harris (11/12) (22-3-1) for his second win over Harris and his 4th defense of the WBC BW title.

Dixon was in control the whole way and dominated the fight. Harris was swollen by round 5, holding his hands low by 7, and down twice in the 10th. I had it 90-82 at the stoppage.

HW - (CBU) Henry Pearce (4/4) (22-2) battered challenger William Hague (10/23) (21-4) before stopping him with a KO8. Hague had been down three previous times before Pearce put him down for good. I had it 70-60 at the stoppage.

Other Fights

MW - Albert Crouse (UR) (13-0) TKO6 Jack Lawrence (37/45) (11-8-2) 50-44 (both at pre)

WW - Tom McAlpine (27/23) (22-5) UD10 Jack Goodman (55/58) (13-11-6)

BW - Barney McCall (37/27) (15-8-3) UD10 Frankie Neil (14/22)

HW - James Corbett (5/5) (38-11-3) UD10 Jack McCormick (163/163) (14-15)

Card Notes

* Henry now has 58 knockdowns in 24 fights

* another ranking glitch after the McCall fight

* the lovely Tamara Witmer was the ring card girl in the main event
