Post Battling Nelson VS. Dave Holly
January 17th, 1914

We are done with the prelims and now time for the main event.

Battling Nelson comes in at (33-17-2) and holding the WBC LW title. This will be Nelson's 3rd defense of the title he won from Young Griffo on May 24th, 1913.

Dave Holly comes in at (27-10-8) and holding the WBO LW title. This is his first defense of the title that he won from Frank Erne on November 29, 1913.

These two have faced each other once before back on September 25, 1908 and fought to a 10 round draw.

Quick action in the first as Holly decides to head butt Nelson early and gets warned for it ... close round but Holly scores a flash knockdown with 20 seconds left in the round.

Not much going on in round 2. Nelson follows Holly around the ring and scores a few shots.

Pretty good action in round 3 despite Holly trying to fight defensively from the outside. Nelson sneaks in a low blow and gets warned for it. Holly needs to quit thinking he has the fight in the bag, since it's only the 3rd round

They could of fought the 4th in a phone booth as the both struggled and grappled inside. Nelson definitely got the better of it.

Nelson definitely taking control of this fight now as Holly seems confused as to how to land a punch. Nelson was warned for a second time in this round as he kept leaning on Holly's neck.

Nelson dominates another round and Holly is looking frustrated as he heads back to his corner. Nelson is throwing more punches in addition to being more accurate.

Holly finally has a decent round. He landed some hard shots in there and hurt Nelson a couple of times. Nelson has a nice mouse under his left eye.

Both fighters came out swinging for the fences in round 8. Nelson's left eye was looking worse. Holly drops Nelson late in the round for an 8 count. Nelson walked to the wrong corner at the bell.

Nelson decides the best defense is a good offense and comes out swinging in the 9th. After two wide misses Holly drops him for the 3rd time in the fight. He gets up and covers up well for the rest of the round. Nelson looked tired walking back to his corner.
