Middleweights April 1908

Main
April 4, 1908 (Pharaohs Casino, Nicaragua)
#3 Jack Dempsey NP 25-7-0 (13) (W TKO 8) #5 George Gardiner 21-11-2 (13)
*Dempsey is looking to string two wins together for the first time since 1905. Gardiner also has been unable to put two wins together.
*Both men look ready to go tonight.
*Dempsey had a good lead going into the eighth but it did not matter with the large cut that was opened over Gardiner's left eye.

Undercard:
#10 Harris Martin 23-13-0 (17) (L KO 5) #14 Al Neill 18-8-3 (8)
#24 Bill Doherty 16-12-2 (7) (L UD 12) #28 Eddie McGoorty 19-10-0 (3)
#39 Billy Stift 15-9-3 (5) (Draw 12) #40 Charley Johnson 17-10-1 (10)

April 11, 1908 (Albuquerque Civic Auditorium, USA)
#9 Willie Lewis 20-9-0 (8) (L KO 4) #12 Mike Lucie 21-9-0 (14)
*Lewis is 3-2-0 (2) in his last 5, his last fight being a loss to Gadiner. Lucie is 4-1-0 (2) in his last fight, the loss being a TKO loss to Lewis.
*Lewis looks ready to go. There is concern that Lucie did too much in camp.
*Round 4 was going to plan for Lewis until he walked into a big uppercut that put the lights out.

#2 Utab Bob Thompson 22-9-0 (8) (L UD 12) #3 Joe Walcott 27-6-0 (18)
*Thompson is trying to rebound after losing the WBA belt to Tommy Ryan. Walcott needs a win tonight to get a shot to recapture the belt.
*Thompson enters in perfect shape. There is concern that Walcott's age is starting to show.

*Jackson was clearly the superior boxer but Smit hwas right there giving him all he wanted.
