Post Re: Weekend Wrap-Up
Yesterday I went out with my father for lunch. He came and picked me up because my car is in the body shop. Don't ask.
Anyway, we go and get cheesesteaks for lunch, and do our usually, go to the stores and look at all the technology stuff that we have no intentions of buying.

Afterward, he says, "Do you need to go and work?" (When you're self-employed, there's always work to do!). I think about it a moment and say, "Let's go to Books-A-Million first." So we do. I eventually go to the magazine section, with about 5% hope of seeing the Ring 2010 Boxing Almanac there. I've been looking for months. And would you believe - the clouds parted, classical music started piping through my imagination - it was there! One copy! I reached for it and plucked it off the shelf with the same care you'd pluck a 4-leaf clover out of the ground. I was so happy, it was ridiculous. I found my father and said, "Let's go!" I carried it to the register with the same care you'd carry something of value through a bad part of town.

As we drove off, I was tearing through that publication like nobody's business - when I look over to my father who was driving. Suddenly I get this flashback. (No, not a drug flashback, the good kind). I'm 7 years old and my father had just bought me a copy of Ring Magazine and we're driving home. Well, I'm 44 years old now and my father's driving and I'm grinning from ear to ear telling him, "I need this for TheBoxingMagazine.com. This helps me get the dates and settings for different fights right without having to comb through hundreds of old magazines." My father's a little hard of hearing, so he probably only heard me say, "TheBoxingMagazine.com... fights, old magazines..." But that's okay. He gets the point.

First thing I do when I get home is fire up Title Bout and start updating fighters. Life is good.

I'm rambling... I know...

Okay, I'm going to go and get some work done now.

I think there's a new writer coming on board. He's a boxing historian and has submitted some articles to me to review. His name is Michael Angelos and he writes for other boxing publications, too. His specialty (if you want to call it that) is doing reports on classic fights. The reports are like revisiting the fight in a lot of ways. You get the date, the location, what happened before, during and after the fight. I think it may make a nice addition.

Now I'm off to read the weekend wrap-up. I always look forward to reading it!
