Post All-Time Heavyweight Tournament 2010
Today I spoke with the Sports editor of a newspaper in South Florida. I asked him if he would be interested in doing a piece on an "All-Time Heavyweight Tournament" (computerized tournament with TBCB). He said he would love to write about it if Ali won the tournament. He wasn't kidding, either. I send out media releases for a bunch of clients and was sending one out today for the Superbowl.

Maybe I should contact the Miami Press because that's where the original tournament was hosted on a radio show.

Times have changed and there aren't any cash prizes available to give to the winner. If there was, I'd be willing to make this a "crusade" of sorts.
Doing the fight write-ups is one thing... but in the original tournament, they wrote the scripts and announced the fights on the radio.

Now that the Internet is here - not that many people are listening to the radio.

So... Facebook is a possibility. Announcing the tournament there. First, though, the write-ups have to be finished. Actually, the whole tournament does.
I should use the results from my tournament at Inside the Ropes at OOTP and re-run the semi's through the finals.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, I agree with the strategies. I didn't give it too much thought, but the AI with the strategies can hover around a 3rd grade level at times.

The biggest problem with the strategies is that the fighter with the lead tends to fight outside defensively the entire fight

the easiest solution is to program that a fighter can't do a certain strategy more than he is rated for it ... so if he is rated for fight outside as a 1 then that is how many rounds in a 10 round fight he can fight that way. Keep the limit 4 that way if a guy is a straight KO fighter like Valero you could put his ratings at

FI - 4
FO - 0
CU - 0
KO - 4

Then he either fights inside, goes for the KO or fights normal.

I would add a "takes round off" category too and that way if a fighter is known to be lazy you could rate him there also.

Okay, I now have 64 fighters ready for action in the All-Time Heavyweight Tournament for upcoming issues of TheBoxingMagazine.com.
The strategy option will not be used. Certain fighter ratings have been tweaked and are not identical to OOTP's ratings. Some of the results from the past tournament weren't realistic, but I've play-tested the new ratings since that time.

Ali is rated a 14 (not a 15) along with Joe Louis. Only the younger version of George Foreman will be used and not the older version (who is good enough to beat some of the other past champions who will be in the tournament.

Tommy Morrison, Shannon Briggs, Sultan Ibragimov and John Ruiz will be among the participants, as will Tommy Burns (who was missing from the first tournament).
