Post Notre Dame Football
Only 31 days until the college football season starts!

Yes I know there are games the weekend before but we all know college football doesn't really start until the Irish play their first game!

As a non-catholic, I am Anglican. I have long been a fan of the Fighting Irish going back to the days of Joe Theismann, and have followed there progress since the late 60's, and I hope they can turn it around this year. I also can't stand USC, and I never could.

My best non homer prediction for the year

San Diego State - W
Michigan - swing (Michigan's season will depend on their defense this year)
@ Michigan St. - L
Purdue - W
Stanford - W
@ UNC - swing (Butch Davis has UNC going in the right direction)
@ Washington - W
Pitt - swing
@ BC - W (cupboard is very bare at BC)
@ Navy - W (no Paul Johnson, no win for Navy)
Syracuse - W
@ USC - L

So that is 7-2 with 3 swing games ... the team is still very very very young so a lot is going to depend on confidence. If they win the first two and go into MSU and win they could easily be 11-0 going into the USC game. Much easier schedule but it won't matter if their line doesn't block.

Fortunately they now have some game breakers at WR and Clausen is healthy, so teams won't be able to load up against the run. Hughes is a beast in the backfield and they need to figure out how to get Allen and Tate the ball more also.

The line was the biggest problem last year and it was an extreme lack of depth.

I don't see ND beating Michigan, but without Henne and Hart it is possible.

Changing your entire offensive scheme could set Michigan back this year ... at ND this year too

SI has the Irish going 7-5. I am more along the lines of 8-4 or 9-3.

8-4 with a win in a minor bowl would be a great season and really set the pace for 2009. 2009 is when all realistic Irish fans think we will be back in the chase.

It's a tired and old excuse but the recruiting efforts by the former coaching staff really set us up to fail last year. 7-10 senior and or 5th year players on the entire team.

There are rumors out there that Weis told Kevin White prior to the season not to expect more than 4-5 wins and that he was playing freshman. Still no excuse for a 3-9 season and back to back losses to Navy and Air Force but almost everyone could see last year coming.

I'm one of the people that believe Clausen is over-rated. His brothers were not that good and I don't see him being much better. Didn't he just recently get in trouble again for drinking?

After the season they had last year I would accept 7-5, but would prefer 8-4.

Picture going around of him and some others holding beers at what appears to be a frat party ... college kids being college kids ... he didn't get in trouble. Like I said elsewhere what's next pictures of him going to class, eating pizza, talking to girls ... OMG he is a college student.

He gained 20lbs in the off-season and has a healthy elbow. I don't think he is overrated but I'm also not sure it matters because I think Crist is the real thing and two years from now we will have the good Montana son.
